It is not difficult to imagine the joy of painting a girl drowned in water. The solid platform often seen in paintings that carries everything – this being the earth, the floor, or a table – is melted into something that can be penetrated. The water surface is just like the virtual plane defined by the X and Y axes in 3D modelling software, and the whole space of the scene is expanded according to it. *The images involved in this piece of work, A Christian Martyr Drowned in the Tiber During the Reign of Diocletian (Paul Delaroche, 1855), and Ophelia (John Everett Millais, between 1851 and 1852) are in the public domain.
