With the recent attention that’s come to generative art, algorithmic code has taken center stage. Yet it’s also important to remember generative art’s long-standing connections to video art, op art, cybernetics, and physical processes employing continuous time analog signals. Time as a continuous dimension allows for feedback loops; a fecund method for generating rich and unpredictable aesthetic results. “Temporale” connects to these historical roots, considers time thematically, and showcases the interconnectedness of systems of all sorts: digital, electronic, optical.
It’s fitting that Temporale was released on the pioneering crypto-art platform SuperRare in April 2023. Sarah Zucker was an early participant in the cryptoart scene, and a confident and vocal supporter of inclusive and sustainable values for a new artist economy. Among her many talents, she is a gifted communicator and I personally have benefited greatly from Sarah’s writing and speaking about art and the NFT ecosystem.
Time is such an important theme both in generative art and in the hyperspeed of crypto and social networks. To borrow an expression from her artistic medium (time-based analog systems), Sarah’s voice and artwork provide a strong signal in an often noisy environment.
