Kopfschlag is a collective and anonymous internet-based project created in 2007 by Primavera De Filippi and Wolfgang Natlacen. Online visitors may participate by drawing, writing, erasing, and sharing their artworks on Kopfschlag’s virtual wall, which can be defined as something between an Etch A Sketch and exquisite corpse. Snapshots of this constantly evolving artwork have been saved as independent video clips that memorialize some of the most interesting sections of the broader artwork. “Ants over the City” is one of these snapshots — neatly illustrating the power of decentralized collaboration, as many anonymous participants have contributed to create an epic scene with no other tools of coordination than a mutating virtual canvas on their screen.
